word), belonging to the so-called \u201cthird generation\u201d of evidence-based psychological therapies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Although belonging to the cognitive-behavioral tradition, contextual therapies have a different conceptual framework (further removed from the biomedical model) and incorporate influences from other traditions such as mindfulness, and principles and techniques from humanistic and existentialist psychology.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>From an ACT perspective, we all have the potential to lead a life with purpose and meaning. But sometimes the things we do to avoid suffering, which is considered inevitable, can limit our life. It is the only couples therapy approach that meets all the empirical validation criteria established by the American Psychological Association for couples and family therapy (Sexton T, Gordon KC, Gurman A, Lebow J, Holtzworth-Munroe A, Johnson S.
